Tinker's Vintage Hat

$36

The Tinker’s butterflyfish eluded the realm of science until 1949, when the deepwater dweller was discovered using a fish trap at a depth of 150 feet. Dripping with swagger, this masked bandit of the sea sports a gold mask over his eye and boasts striking colors of white, black and gold. Diagonal blocks dramatically separate the black back body from the silvery white front body, which is covered in dark polka dots. Golden highlights on the tail, dorsal fin and caudal fin bring that extra bling that makes this rare beauty a visual delight.

The Tinker’s butterflyfish, also known as the Hawaiian Butterflyfish or Tinker’s Butterflyfish, is said to have a bold personality, being somewhat of a Curious George around divers. Found on deep reef slopes in Hawaii, Johnston Atoll and the Marshall Islands, this kīkākapu, as butterflyfish are known in Hawaiian, can grow up to 15 cm and is often found in pairs.
